1) Requirements for streaming audio
All that is required to stream audio is a Pentium III or higher PC, with minimum
128Mb RAM, 50Mb disk space, a sound card and a fixed Internet Connection with
a static IP address. This can range from Broadband Cable Internet, ADSL, ISDN,
or Leased lines. We recommend a Cable Internet connection or a Leased line for
best stability. If you do not have one of these connections, we can direct you
to a company in your area that can set you up. The advantage would be an Internet
connection that's always on, ten times faster than a dial up account, and can
be networked, wireless or fixed line for several computers in your office. Refer
to www.genesisigroup.com for more details
of Internet Connection sharing. (UK Only). We suggest commercial applications
use a minimum Pentium 4 machine with 256mb RAM and Windows 2000 operating system
& a Leased Line. We can provide all equipment & services required.
2) How connect audio source to PC
To connect an audio source for streaming live on the Internet, Ensure all sound
levels from source and on PC are set to minimum. This is Important!
otherwise damage can occur to your PC hardware. Connect the audio source in to
the Line in socket (middle socket for standard/stock sound cards) with a 3.5mm
audio jack (or as advanced sound cards may require). Set the audio source sound
level to a low setting. Adjust the sound levels, Recording, Line in levels on
the PC until you can clearly hear the audio comfortably from your PC speakers.
3) How to set up streaming software (windows
media encoder)
The audio performer is the software you install on the PC with the Internet
connection for broadcasting the live media. Once your set up payment and monthly
payments have cleared, go to our download page or microsoft's
web site & download Windows Media Encoder. You will also be sent an e-mail
link and instructions on how to set up. Ensure you are connected to the Internet,
open the downloaded package and follow the instructions for installation. The
first window will look like this:
Select the first option: 'Broadcast, capture or convert using
session wizard'. Select 'Broadcast a live event from attached devices'. Next,
choose the device to capture the media. You will be given the option to choose
what devices you already have installed, e.g. soundcard, video capture card. Click
Next. The encoder will find a free port on your PC & display information like
the following. http://219.39.192.89:7070. This would be your IP address followed
by a port number which the encoder has selected. We will
need this information to connect your live stream. Next, choose at what
bit rate to encode your media. You will have a choice from a drop down list. For
audio broadcasting for dial up connections, choose 'Audio for FM radio quality
broadcast 28.8kbps (stereo). Next you will be asked if you wish to archive your
stream. This is an option that should only be taken if you have a powerful computer
with large amounts of disk space. Click next and fill in the information regarding
the live stream, e.g. title, copyright etc... Click, next, the final screen will
confirm all selected details:
Click finish to return to the encoder which will be ready
to stream.
4) How to stream audio
When you open windows media encoder, you will be presented with the following:
Once we have your IP address & port number the encoder is
using, you may press start on the encoder to begin streaming. The audio level
monitor on the left will indicate the audio level. Adjust your sound card levels
to ensure the audio only peaks in the red area of the audio level monitor. When
encoding video, the encoder displays two video screens to monitor video.
5) How do listeners listen to audio (setting
up html page)
All that is required to connect to your live stream from the Internet
is a link to the stream on our server. The welcome e-mail when you sign up will
provide you with a link that you may copy in to your web page. For embedded players,
you will be forwarded html script to copy in to your web page.
6) No audio is streaming
There could be several reasons why audio is not streaming or the
software is not working.
- check all leads are connected, and audio source is available, and that all
sound levels at audio source and PC are correctly set. you can check the audio
level monitor to check if audio is getting from source and through the PC to the
encoder.
- is software working correctly? check for error messages, shut down PC &
reboot
- if you have a firewall installed, check settings. Internet Server blocking
can prevent broadcasting.
- check the IP address & port number and confirm with us if we have the
correct information on file.
- check to see if the audio is broadcasting by listening to your own stream.
If you continue to encounter problems, please contact us at
7) The sound of the live audio broadcast is
distorted
Ensure all sound levels are correctly set. Adjust Audio source
or PC recording sound settings. View the audio level by watching the audio level
monitor on the audio performer and make sure it is not too high. Alternatively,
adjust the gain from the source.
